Due to popular demand, major professional sports teams are finally headed to Las Vegas. An issue with professional sports coming to Las Vegas has traditionally been centered on gambling and the strict anti-gambling policies of most major sports leagues. However, the door was first open with the NHL expansion team, the Vegas Golden Knights! Then later with the approved relocation of the Oakland Raiders (with the axtual Las Vegas franchise relocation slated for either 2019 or 2020).
The Vegas Golden Knights will begin play in the 2017-18 NHL season at the T-Mobile Arena located on the Las Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas Raiders’s timeline is a little less clear. Plans for a Las Vegas Stadium have been submited and approved, and are expected to be completed in by 2020. The Las Vegas Stadium is expected to replace UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium and will be located west of Interstate 15.
There are currently no plans for expansion or relocation of either MLB or NBA teams in Las Vegas. However, the NBA’s Summer League is held in Las Vegas, as well as, training for past Olympic basketball teams.
Will more sports team take a roll of the dice on Vegas?
